In the early 1300s, the famous Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Shah Farid stayed here. Faridpur Kotyali Thana was established on 10th September 1894 after his name. Then on 1st December 1984, Faridpur was named Sadar Upazila for administrative decentralization.
Kumar river, Bhubenshwar river and Padma river flow inside this upazila. Historians believe that Faridpur city originated in the early fifteenth century. Mughal rule began in 1666 AD. Chowkbazar was then established as the center of trade and commerce of the city. The term Chawkbazar is also derived from Mughal sources. Gowalchamat, Khabaspur, Ambikapur Hindu ashrams, monasteries, temples were built for religious purposes. Niltuli Road is indicative of the development of that time. 1760 AD: Faridpur comes under British rule. In the late 1800s and early 19th centuries, brick-and-stone buildings, Western-style bungalows began to emerge in the city.

Administration Faridpur Sadar Thana was formed in 1896 and the Thana was converted into Upazila in 1983.
